In response to very positive feedback about WOMEX ’14, the 22nd edition of WOMEX returns to Santiago de Compostela, the capital of the Galician region located at almost the most Western point of Europe. Santiago has been the journey's end for millions of devout pilgrims via the "Way of St. James" since the 9th century. Declared an UNESCO World Heritage city for the extraordinary and well-preserved architecture of its beautiful old town, Santiago de Compostela has been an important meeting place of faith, thinking and cultural exchange since the Middle Ages, reflected also by its prestigious university founded in the 15th century.
The annual WOMEX festivities commence with a grand Opening Concert, focusing on music from a particular country or region and celebrating the start of five days bursting with music, networking and cultural exchange. Every year, the WOMEX Opening concert sets the standard for the rest of the expo.
