We welcome the new law 5103/2024 (A΄57) of the Ministry of Culture, which was passed by a broad majority on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, titled “Measures for the Preservation and Promotion of Intangible Cultural Heritage, the Protection and Enhancement of Greek-Language Song, and of Recordings by New Creators or Artists, as well as the Protection and Dissemination of the Greek Language”.
We welcome this historic legislative initiative by the Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni, as the passed bill - whose articles were voted by almost all the parties in the Parliament - implements for the first time constant demands of the industry for the strengthening of the national repertoire, while at the same time fully listening to the suggestions of creators, musical performers, singers and sound recording producers that emerged through the stages of this legislative process, such as: the protection and strengthening of sound recordings of new creators or artists, as well as the synchronization of Greek-Language song or the instrumental version of Greek-language song, or musical works without lyrics or with lyrics in a language of an EU member state, in audiovisual, television or films productions.
For the first time, the Greek state is creating an institutional framework for the protection of Greek-Language song.
For the first time it is recognized as a necessary protected asset in the context of the intangible cultural heritage of our country and is treated as an equal link of the modern cultural heritage.
The institutional support of the Greek repertoire by the Greek State comes at a time of enormous technological challenges, which we are called to face collectively, so that through our seamless creation and work, the duration and creative continuity of this rich national musical heritage can be ensured.
The new law 5103/2024 is our right and belongs to all our members, to every creator, composer, lyricist, performer, musical performer and recording producer.
