Over 145 senior executives of CMOs from around the world attended CISAC European Meeting which concluded with great success last week, culminating in a tour and a gala dinner at the Acropolis Museum.

Over 145 senior executives of CMOs from around the world attended CISAC European Meeting which concluded with great success last week, culminating in a tour and a gala dinner at the Acropolis Museum.

CISAC EC, hosted on April 17 & 18 in Greece for the first time by AUTODIA, highlighted all the critical issues that concern the international community of creators’ Organizations from the repertoires of music, audiovisual, drama, literature and visual arts, especially with the opportunities and challenges raised for creators and artists from the rapid development of new technology.

AI, digital music streaming platforms, developments and competition in the music industry, international networking and new tools developed by the Organizations to respond more effectively to the management and protection needs of their repertoires, as well as the integration of the Digital Single Market Directive were just some of the topics analyzed through interesting speeches and panel discussions, in the context of the hybrid event hosted at the Radisson Blu Park hotel, Athens.

Greetings and opening speeches

The Conference was opened by the Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni, while the Deputy Minister of Culture Christos Dimas also addressed a greeting. Ms. Mendoni emphasized that the protection of intellectual property and related rights are a priority for the Greek State, the Ministry of Culture and for her personally. At the same time, she announced a new legislative initiative to modernize and support the Hellenic Copyright Organization (OPI), overseen by the Ministry of Culture.

During their opening speeches, both the CISAC Director General Gadi Oron and the AUTODIA Chairman Yiannis Glezos emphasized the remarkable progress of AUTODIA, thanks to the support of the World Confederation and the ongoing struggles of the Society and its people.

The AUTODIA CEO Margarita Panagiotopoulou presented the financial data, the business development, the technological infrastructure, as well as the goals and perspectives of the Society, which holds a share of approximately 85% in the Greek market.

Event at the Academy of Athens, Tuesday 16/4

As part of the Conference, a CISAC and AUTODIA joint event took place at the Academy of Athens, one day earlier, attended by several Greek and foreign CMOs’ officials, as well as experts in the field of Intellectual Property Rights and Collective Management.

The event was organized on occasion of the 2nd edition of the collective work of Professors Irini Stamatoudi and Paul Torremans, "EU Copyright Law. A Commentary' (Edward Elgar Publishing). The issues related to AI works and intellectual property rights (Irini Stamatoudi) and issues of fair remuneration from streaming (Paul Torremans).

The event was welcomed by the Athens University’s professor emeritus and member of the Academy of Athens, Michalis Stathopoulos, and the Deputy Minister of Culture, Christos Dimas, while the CISAC General Director Gadi Oron gave an opening speech.

Tour and Dinner at the Acropolis Museum

Emotional moments of beauty and joy had the opportunity to enjoy on Wednesday night the guests at the Acropolis Museum, through a fascinating tour of the Museum's exhibits, as well as a beautiful dinner, accompanied by live music, in the restaurant overlooking the Sacred Rock of the Acropolis.

CISAC representatives and the foreign Organizations congratulated the AUTODIA’s Administration and organizing team for the professional excellence of such a productive and enjoyable event.

This year's CISAC European Committee was one of the most successful events to date!
